Dear Wannabe Diary,
Last night? A miracle. My toddler slept through the night. Not a single whimper. Not a single midnight serenade of "Mommmmmyyyyyy." And me? Naturally, I was awake half the night, shining my phone flashlight to check if she was breathing, was she covered, or if her feet were cold because heaven forbid she wears socks to bed. Moms, does this paranoia ever end? Asking for my tired self.
Still, it was a solid win. And guess what? Even my bladder cooperated, and I didn’t have to pee once—an impressive feat considering the mini gymnast in my uterus who’s either practicing Olympic-level kickboxing or attempting a career in synchronized swimming. She was flipping and kicking all morning, and even my partner managed to feel her tiny but mighty movements. In my first pregnancy, feeling kicks was rare; now, I’m basically getting belly punches on the hour, every hour. Honestly, it’s the best reassurance I could ask for.
Morning Drama: Meditation & Waffles
The morning started with 20 glorious minutes of meditation, a rare feat considering my toddler’s newfound obsession with having me within arm’s reach at all times. I mean, can a mom get five minutes in the bathroom alone? Spoiler: no.
Then came breakfast. Feeling ambitious (or maybe just reckless), I decided to whip up waffles. My waffle recipe is as simple as it gets—basic, quick, and delicious. Toddler approved? 100%. Here's the magic formula:
Ingredients:
- 80 g butter (about 5 ½ tbsp)
- 60 g sugar (about ¼ cup + 1 tbsp)
- 1 packet of vanilla sugar (about 2 tsp)
- 3 eggs
- 375 ml milk (1 ½ cups)
- 300 g flour (about 2 ½ cups)
- ½ sachet of baking powder (approx. 1 tsp or 6 g)
- A dash of vanilla paste and rum flavoring (optional but fancy)
Instructions:
Cream the softened butter (leave it out beforehand or gently melt it if you forget), sugar, and eggs using a handheld electric mixer until smooth. Gradually alternate adding the flour (mixed with baking powder) and milk, blending well after each addition, until you achieve a medium-thick batter—just the right consistency for pouring but not too runny. Then, pour it into the waffle maker (which I scored for €5 on clearance—bargain of the year!).
Topped with fresh fruit, kid’s yogurt, and love, they were devoured in record time. For the full visual and more foodie inspiration, check out my Instagram highlights “Wannabe Chef.” 😉
Lunch? Let’s Be Real
After all that breakfast effort, lunch was outsourced. My partner grabbed pre-cooked ribs while I whipped up frozen fries in the air fryer. Yes, effort counts even when it’s minimal. You can bet no one complained.
Doctor’s Visit & A Big Hallelujah
The highlight of the day? My toddler’s blood test came back clear, and the doctor officially declared her healthy. Translation: back to daycare tomorrow! Is it okay to admit I’m more excited about this than I was about Christmas? She needs her friends, her routine, and I need my coffee and quiet.
A Visit to the Long Line of Grandmas
To kill time (and maybe dodge toddler tantrums), we visited my grandma—aka my daughter’s great-grandma and the ultimate spoiler of all children. Snacks? Check. Toys? Check. Cartoons? Double-check. You name it, she delivered. Sure, it’s not ideal for our screen time detox, but you know what? I’m picking my battles.
Fun fact: my daughter has not just a grandma but also a great-grandma and even a great-great-grandma. Yup, five generations of women still kicking it. And let me tell you, they’re all super vital and full of energy, so fingers crossed I’ve inherited those longevity genes!
Final Thoughts
Today was good. A little chaotic, a little sweet, and full of reminders that sometimes the little wins—like waffles and uninterrupted coffee—are enough. Tomorrow promises a quiet house, a chance to catch up, and maybe (finally) a TikTok strategy. Speaking of which, let me know: What do YOU want to see on my TikTok? Leave me a comment or DM me on Instagram—seriously, your input would mean the world.
Cheers to surviving, thriving, and hopefully, sleeping through the night again.
Checking on baby at night is too real, i check on myboy all the time
It’s like we’re part of a secret mom club where sleep is optional, but flashlight patrol is mandatory. 🥴💡 You’re doing amazing, mama!
