💡 So, we all know babies kick in the womb… but did you know they can yawn, cry, and even suck their thumbs like tiny philosophers contemplating life? 🤯

The other day, I had an ultrasound, and my doctor caught my little one sticking out her tongue at me. Like… ma’am?? You haven’t even been born yet, and you’re already full of sass?! 😂 That got me thinking – what ELSE are babies doing in there?
Turns out, they’re pretty busy. Here’s a breakdown of 12 weird, fascinating, and slightly questionable things babies do in the womb – and when they start doing them!
1. Drinking amniotic fluid (from 12 weeks) 🍼
Yep, your baby is basically chugging their own personal smoothie in there. Bonus fact: They also pee it out. And then drink it again. (Sorry.)
2. Yawning (from 15 weeks) 😴
Science confirms that babies yawn in the womb! Growing a whole human body is exhausting, okay?
3. Hiccuping (from 16 weeks) 🤭
If you ever feel rhythmic little movements, it’s probably your baby hiccuping. Adorable.
4. Practicing facial expressions & crying (from 18 weeks) 😢
Babies actually start making crying motions in the womb. Which is kinda cute… but also makes me wonder if I’ve already disappointed them. 😅
5. Kicking, stretching, and punching (from 20 weeks) 🦵
At this stage, your baby is training to be a future MMA fighter. Congrats.
6. Flipping around (from 24 weeks) 🤸♂️
Since they still have room, they’re basically doing somersaults in there. Enjoy the feeling while it lasts.
7. Recognizing your voice (from 25 weeks) 🎤
Yes, they can hear you! So if you’ve been talking to them… they know. 👀
8. Dreaming! (from 28 weeks) 💭
Babies start experiencing REM sleep, meaning they probably have little baby dreams. But what are they even dreaming about?! Floating? Drinking more amniotic fluid? Who knows.
9. Chilling to music (from 30 weeks) 🎶
Studies show that by this stage, babies react to music! So if you’ve been playing Beyoncé, they might already be a fan.
10. Almost ready for birth!
By 32 weeks, they’re just finishing up the final touches – getting a little fatter, practicing breathing, and preparing for their grand entrance.
Conclusion:
Babies aren’t just passively chilling in there – they’re busy training for life outside! Whether it’s practicing breathing, hiccuping, or throwing punches at your organs, they’re definitely making the most of their time in the womb.
